Morse continues to record albums outside the purple road, sometimes solo, sometimes as Steve Morse Band.

In 2000, he recorded the first album consisting of tracks written in the spirit of Morse's many influences, including Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Alex Lifeson, The Byrds, Jimmy Page, John McLaughlin, Rolling Stones, Mountain, George Harrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Kansas and Yes.
